Ce vieux loup de mer est typique des girouettes appartenant au Folk Art de la côte nord du Massachusetts. Celles-ci apparaissent dans le tournant de siècle (1890-1920) et sont alors finement sculptées en "volume", contrairement aux modèles plus récents (à partir de 1950) qui sont plates. Elles sont très recherchées, ayant leur place d'american heritage dans les collections privées et musées.

En mouvement, elle est comique aves ses bras qui moulinent en prenant le vent.

Dimensions du sujet: 35,5 x 9,5 cm. / avec un bras en haut: 43 cm. / envergure des bras: 37 cm.

Etat: excellent avec d'inévitables traces d'usage et éclats de peinture... Elle paraît avoir été revernie il y a mult années.

One of the most indigenous collectable in Nantucket Folk Art field is the ever popular Nantucket Sailorboy (or Dewey boy) whirligig. They were first made in the late 19th Century and were sold as wind toys. Often made by retired Nantucket carpenters - many different designs and colorations exist. We try to offer the best examples - ones that are in good untouched condition. Though originally they spun about on fence posts and railings today they make a handsome and charming additions to folk art collections.
